The History of the Hot Buttered Rum

The origins of Hot Buttered Rum are not entirely clear, but it is believed to have originated in the United States in the 18th or 19th century. The drink was originally made with rum, butter, sugar, and spices and was served hot as a way to warm up and soothe sore throats.

Hot Buttered Rum has been mentioned in literature for centuries, with references to the drink appearing in works by writers such as Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving, and Charles Dickens. In fact, Hot Buttered Rum is mentioned in Dickens' classic novel "A Tale of Two Cities" as a drink enjoyed by the characters Jerry Cruncher and Mr. Lorry.

Over time, the Hot Buttered Rum has evolved and now includes a variety of ingredients, such as honey, cream, and cinnamon. It is often served as a cocktail at bars and restaurants, but it can also be made at home with just a few simple ingredients.

Despite its evolution, Hot Buttered Rum remains a popular and comforting drink to this day. It is often enjoyed during the colder months as a way to warm up and relax and is also believed to have health benefits, such as helping to alleviate cold and flu symptoms.
