About the Event

What is the difference between a trident spoon and a Japanese bar spoon?

What is the purpose of bitters?

What bar shaker is the best one?

These are all common questions when entering the world of bartending. We are here to answer them while learning some fantastic bartending skills! Bar Basics is a five-part course that takes place over five weeks. This course will dive into the techniques, lingo, cocktail knowledge, and much more than you cannot get from watching episodes of Bar Rescue. We aim to empower you whether you are a bartending connoisseur or just entering the industry.

BUT WHY SHOULD I TAKE THIS COURSE?

As industry professionals, we learned on the job, and it was a great experience. However, having a crash course to focus specifically on cocktailing and bartending techniques would have sped up our career progression. That’s why we created this course. If you are interested in bartending as a profession, this course will teach you the skills to be a great bartender. Behind the bar is where you will put them to use! If you are doing this for fun and to be a better at-home bartender, we guarantee the skills you will learn will be sure to impress!

Over five parts we will cover:

  • Deep dive knowledge of the BIG 5 (Whisk(e)y, Rum, Tequila, Vodka, and Gin)
  • Pairing liqueurs, cordials, mixers
  • Making syrups
  • Bitters and tinctures
  • Understanding tasting and nosing profiles
  • Different bar tools for different drinks and their proper use
  • Common and uncommon garnish and styling techniques
  • Hands-on craft and classic cocktail-making
  • And more

At the end of the course, you will be given a certificate of completion.

FAQS

Do I have to attend every part of the course?

To receive the certificate of completion, you must attend and participate in every part. If you cannot attend one of the scheduled days, please let us know as soon as possible.

What if I don't drink? Can I still participate?

There is no requirement to drink to participate. That being said, if you are unable to sample the spirits to determine their taste profiles and learn how to pair and mix properly, this course may not be worth it.

About The Instructor

This course is the brainchild of Professional Mixologist and Certified Spirits Educator Alexi Fisher. She has worked in the industry for 16 years and is a bartender all over the US. In 2018, she opened The Hammered Copper - Mobile Bartending. When events were canceled during the pandemic, she restarted her teaching and eventually opened the Cocktail Collective brick-and-mortar in December of 2021. She loves making classic cocktails and creating craft cocktails. Her true passion is sharing her knowledge and skill set with others.
